• The first time we see Emo, he's drinking and rattling a sack—we still don't know what's in it.
• Emo is a mean drunk, so the other guys make sure to laugh at his lame jokes.
• Emo likes to rant on about how whites have lots of good stuff while the Indian's "mother earth" is nothing but a shriveled up piece of worthless land. Native Americans should abandon their way of life, go out into the white world and take what they can get.
• Emo is in the habit of telling crude stories about all the white women he used to go out with when he was in the army.
• Emo hates Tayo because he's part white.
• Emo takes out the little bag, which is full of human teeth that he knocked out of the corpse of a Japanese soldier. He likes to take the teeth out and play with them at a certain point in the drinking ritual.
• Emo loved torturing and killing people during the war. His only regret is that they didn't bomb all of Japan and wipe the Japanese off the face of the earth.
• In a flashback, we see Emo smashing a field full of melons as a child. It's an example of his wasteful and destructive nature.
• When Emo joined the army he was super excited. He loved all the weapons, and he knew how to use them. He was a natural killing machine.
• Emo plays with the teeth and antagonizes Tayo until Tayo snaps and stabs Emo in the belly.
• Emo lives. (Darn.)
• The next year, when Tayo is feeling better, Emo starts spreading rumors that Tayo has gone crazy. He tries to get the authorities to arrest Tayo and take him back to the hospital.
• Emo leads Leroy and Pinkie in torturing Harley for letting Tayo escape. He shouts to make sure Tayo is watching.
• When Leroy and Pinkie die in suspicious accidents, we suspect Emo is behind them.
• The Laguna elders banish Emo and he goes to California.
