Evelyn Mulwray (Faye Dunaway)’s Timeline and Summary

Evelyn Mulwray (Faye Dunaway)’s Timeline and Summary

  • Evelyn first confronts Jake after Jake follows her husband, Hollis, and takes pictures of him committing adultery (or so it seems). Evelyn tells him she didn't hire him—apparently, an impostor did—and she threatens him with a lawsuit.
  • When Jake begs her to drop the lawsuit, she agrees.
  • After Hollis gets murdered, Evelyn meets with Jake again. Under further questioning, she admits to Jake that she and her husband had an open marriage and she had numerous affairs. So, she wasn't jealous.
  • Later, she picks Jake up after he gets knocked out by an irate farmer while investigating the water theft.
  • She goes with him to the retirement home where he discovers the scheme by which someone is buying land under the home residents' names.
  • Afterward, she and Jake sleep together and she warns him that her father is a bad dude.
  • Jake follows her and finds out she's keeping a woman at her servant's house. Evelyn says that this is her sister, but won't reveal more.
  • After Jake comes back later and slaps her, asking her if she killed Hollis, she admits the awful truth: the woman she's hiding is her daughter…and sister.
  • Her father committed incest with her when she was younger, and now she wants to escape his clutches, bringing her daughter with her.
  • Jake tries to help her escape, but…she doesn't. When Evelyn tries to shoot her father (wounding him non-fatally), the cops shoot her dead.
  • Noah leaves with his daughter/granddaughter in tow. Sad stuff.
