Santiago Nasar

Even though Angela is the most well rounded character in the novel, Santiago still gets the title of protagonist. Why? Well, the story is about him. He's the one who is put up against the negative forces and antagonists of the story. He is also the one who dies the death of a tragic hero. Santiago even gets the very first and last moments of the narrative. So we think that's enough to qualify him as our protagonist.
