This poem is not too difficult, really—especially if you're familiar with the original Grimms' version of the fairy tale. If you're not, though, a simple read-through (see our list of "Shout-Outs" for a link) will give you more than enough info to get through the poem. That and a couple of early twentieth-century cultural references may throw you for a loop, but overall the poem remains firmly in the realm of the understandable, which we appreciate!
