Character Role Analysis

Younger Waiter

Ah, the folly of youth. The younger waiter, who doesn't yet understand the ways of the world, impatiently attempts to argue with the older waiter about closing up the café and sending the old man home for the night. His irate antagonism isn't something we blame him for; rather, there's even something vaguely charming in it – his youthful optimism and lack of sympathy for the old man demonstrate his naïveté, rather than any deeper kind of conflict. He's not a bad guy, and certainly not a villain (there are no heroes and villains here, if you haven't already noticed); instead, he's simply ignorant of the difficulties that life brings.
