Metzger

Metzger is the co-executor of Pierce Inverarity's estate, and in this role he is expected to help Oedipa deal with all the complicated legal hullabaloo she might encounter.

But Metzger immediately reveals himself to be way more interested in getting in Oedipa's pants than in helping her. After they begin an affair at Echo Courts, Metzger fades into the background until he runs away with a younger girl. Metzger is one of several failed "guides" in Lot 49, and the result is that Oedipa has to look out for #1.
