Okay, so, Simon doesn't mean to be evil, but he definitely is the antagonist to Elesin's protagonist, actively working to thwart Elesin's attempts to pull off an important ritual in his community. In one fell swoop, with Elesin's untimely arrest, Simon manages to ruin Elesin's life and reputation, and potentially (according to Yoruba cosmology), throw the world off its axis. For someone who ostensibly has good intentions, he sure does a lot of damage.
