Character Role Analysis

Father Latour

Since we never really hear any perspectives outside Father Latour's, you can bet that he's our main man in this book. It's also pretty easy to sympathize with the guy, since he gave up a comfortable life in France for the sake of spreading his faith through the harsh American frontier. He's a real pioneer.

That said, the guy's not perfect. He does nothing when he has a chance to help out some of the Navajo people who've been displaced by American settlers. But for the most part he's a good dude who's lived a good life. He may not be a saint, but he's an all around stand-up guy.
