Celia reveals that she hasn't spoken to her son in four years, since the Soviet Union stormed Prague. She asks Felicia to send him a telegram to inform him of Jorge's death.
Felicia, obsessed with religious objects, raps Javier three times on the head with a crucifix.

Celia looks at Javier's childhood picture as she reflects on Felicia's troubles. We learn about his secret departure for Czechoslovakia in 1966 and his letters home.
Javier returns to Cuba in 1978, after Felicia burns Graciela Moreira's head in revenge for the death of her husband Ernesto.
