• Then:
• On his sixteenth birthday, Bobby learns that Nia is pregnant; they tell their parents, neither of whom react well.
• Nia goes through her pregnancy, and Bobby stays as involved as possible, going with her to doctor appointments, bringing her food, and being a generally nice guy.
• After weighing the pros and cons of adoption, Bobby and Nia decide to give up the baby.
• But Nia goes into labor slightly early, and in the hospital she goes into a coma after giving birth to Feather.
• Because of this, Bobby decides to keep Feather. He becomes a single father, though he receives emotional and financial support from his family.
• Now:
• Bobby takes care of Feather, falling more in love with her each day. This doesn't stop him from being terrified that he'll mess it all up, though, and that someone will take her away from him.
• Bobby's friends, K-Boy and J. L., meet Feather and make her laugh.
• When Feather gets sick, he cleans her up and asks his neighbor, Coco, to watch her for the day because he won't be able to get her to the babysitter on time.
• Then Bobby spray paints a wall for (unwittingly) a whole day and winds up arrested for vandalism.
• As Bobby's dad picks him up from the police station, Bobby reflects on how he's disappointing his father, his mom, the babysitter, his neighbor, and, most of all, Feather.
• Bobby moves in with his dad because his mom is out of town too much.
• When Bobby's brother, Paul, comes to visit, Bobby learns about small town life in Ohio.
• Finally, Bobby decides to leave New York so that he can be a good father to Feather.
