Prewitt (Montgomery Clift)’s Timeline and Summary

Prewitt transfers to Oahu, where he immediately runs into trouble. Captain Holmes wants him to box in a military tournament, but Prewitt is unwilling, having blinded a friend in the ring.
Holmes forces Prewitt to undergo "The Treatment"—constant bullying and abuse.
Prewitt's friend, Angelo Maggio, takes him to The New Congress Club, where he meets and starts to fall in love with a girl named Lorene (her real name's Alma), a hostess at the club.
Lorene doesn't want to marry Prewitt—she wants a "proper" and more prosperous life, but still agrees to go out with him for the present.
After briefly going AWOL, Maggio is sent to the stockade run by his enemy, Sgt. Judson. Meanwhile, Prewitt is dealing with "The Treatment."
When Sgt. Ike Galovitch goes too far in bullying Prewitt, Prewitt beats him up.
The base commander witnesses the fight and saves Prewitt from "The Treatment," forcing Captain Holmes to resign.
Maggio's enemy, Judson, severely beats him in the stockade—but Maggio escapes and dies after finding Prewitt.
Prewitt tracks down Judson. They get into a knife fight, and Prewitt kills Judson in the process while suffering a bad injury.
He goes to recover at Lorene/Alma's place, where he discovers that the Japanese are sneak attacking the island.
Prewitt staggers out to rejoin his fellow soldiers, but is shot and killed accidentally, when a soldier mistakes him for a Japanese invader.
