The Minister

For a mentor, the minister sure shows up pretty late in this book. Once he does, he gives all sorts of good advice to the people of the Norwegian settlement. But on the other hand, he's also the person who Per Hansa goes looking for when Hansa dies of hypothermia. Despite his polished outward appearance, the minister is a deeply insecure guy. But it's this frailty that makes him such a good listener and sympathizer.
