Honoré (Maurice Chevalier)’s Timeline and Summary

Honoré welcomes us to the world of the story, and tells us who he is.
Honoré meets his nephew Gaston for lunch, but Gaston is in quite a mood, and decides to skip it.
The next day, after Gaston has confirmed that Liane is cheating on him, he comes to Honoré for advice. Honoré insists that Gaston must confront her and have the last laugh, and accompanies his nephew to do so.
When the next day, the papers report Liane's on-purpose-attempted suicide, Honoré pops champagne in Gaston's honor and tells him to go out and celebrate in the public eye.
A week or two later, Honoré has come to Trouville to pursue a young lady or two. But he's distracted by the ghost of a past affair: Madame Alvarez. The two reminisce together while watching Gigi and Gaston play on the beach.
Weeks after that, Honoré is waiting for his nephew at a cafe, eating cheese and drinking wine and satisfied with his life. Gaston comes storming in, revealing that Gigi has rejected him. Honoré advises him to forget her.
That evening, Honoré is hanging at Maxim's with his usual coterie of pretty young things, when he runs into Gaston. He asks who he's with. When Honoré learns it's Gigi, he's surprised by how fresh and pretty she is. He congratulates Gaston on his good fortune.
In the final scene, Honoré bids us goodbye, revealing Gigi and Gaston strolling happily through the park.
