Grease is the Word

Whoever said "bird bird bird, bird is the word" is a) in need of some serious help and b) wrong. Because grease is the word.

That famous phrase comes from the opening theme to the movie, a song called "Grease." How'd they come up with that title?

Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees (who sang for John Travolta again in Saturday Night Fever) wrote "Grease," although Frankie Valli took the lead vocals. This song wasn't in the original musical, so the title existed before the song.

It's like the title comes from the greasy hair and—no offense—overall greasy demeanor of its characters. We've drawn a lot of parallels between the "greasers" of The Outsiders and the T-Birds in Grease. One main thing in common: grease.

In Grease, Danny even uses his hair grease on his finger to slip off his class ring. Were it not for hair grease, he and Sandy might never have ended up together.
