Character Analysis
Pride and vanity play a fair share in Mrs. Van Daan's personality. From the start of the play she is overly fearful and illogical. As the play continues, she just gets plain crackers. She even tries to flirt a bit with Mr. Frank (gasp!). Her prized possession is an expensive fur coat and she consistently talks about money. It's clear the things she misses most about her former life were just that—things. She hen-pecks her husband and becomes jealous of the relationship Anne builds with Peter.
