Antagonist

Character Role Analysis

John Galardi Jr.

You might be thinking that John's dad is the antagonist since he ran out on his family when John was ten years old. We could see that, really, we could. But our money's on our main man John himself as the antagonist anyway, because—simply put—he's the character who gets in his way the most… yes, even if it's his own way he gets into.

Sure, when John is in Boston, his dad drives him nuts; but when he's at home, his mom's depression and lack of touchy-feely-ness eats away at him. Plus, John gets annoyed at Brian, Emily, Al, and just about everyone else who crosses his path. And when you get down to the heart of the matter, the reason this happens is because John is dead set on not connecting with people—so it's not their fault he struggles, it's his.
