Harold Bloom's Dispute: The Canon Wars
It's impossible to discuss Harold Bloom (or Allan Bloom, for that matter) without bringing up the so-called "Canon Wars." This was a real cluster of a situation with anger and hurt feelings on all sides.
See, just when everyone was jumping on the French theory bandwagon, Bloom went all blazes for the classics of Western literature. In a no-holds-barred sort of way, Bloom was fine to be a lone cowboy against what he called "the rabblement of resentment" (source), who believed that identity politics were relevant to the humanities.
