• After being framed for a prank agains the headmaster, Kat gets booted out of the Colgan School.
• Soon, she reunites with her partner-in-crime, Hale.
• She finds out that a mysterious thief named Visily Romani has stolen priceless works of art from a notorious crime boss, Arturo Taccone.
• What does this have to do with Kat? Well, Taccone thinks Kat's dad did it, so Kat has to get them back. Or else, Taccone warns.
• With the help of Hale and Gabrielle, her cousin, Kat forms a team to steal the paintings back from the Henley—the well-guarded museum where Romani hid Taccone's paintings.
• She recruits Simon, the tech genius, in Vegas. She also recruits the Bagshaw brothers, who live with her Uncle Eddie, and Nick, a handsome young pickpocket.
• Nick's recruitment doesn't sit well with Hale, who doesn't trust Nick. He might also be a bit jealous of Nick, because we think there's some romantic tension between Hale and our gal Kat.
• Despite the tension between Kat and Hale, though, the team's complicated heist goes off without a hitch. Well, maybe one or two small ones, like the fact that one of the paintings the group is supposed to recover, Girl Praying to Saint Nicholas, isn't there.
• Kat manages to turn Taccone over to Interpol, thereby saving her dad.
• At Christmas time, Kat receives an unexpected gift from Visily Romani: it's the Girl Praying to Saint Nicholas. Attached is a note, saying that the painting has been returned to its rightful owner. Huh?
• Kat is left to ponder the meaning of this mysterious message... at least until the sequel.
