Winchester Timeline and Summary
MoreWinchester Timeline and Summary
- Winchester complains that he's left out of the tasks for helping the kingdom while Henry VI grows up. He schemes to kidnap the baby king and become the guiding force of English politics. There's no evidence in the rest of the play that he does this, but he does quarrel a lot and pester Gloucester.
- Winchester orders the men at the Tower not to let Gloucester in. Gloucester and Winchester quarrel, and their men start a fight. The Mayor of London stops it, but both Gloucester and Winchester say they'll pick up the disagreement later. Gloucester is more moderate, but Winchester is threatening to kill Gloucester.
- Winchester gets all angry at Gloucester for accusing him in Parliament. They argue again. Their men fight again. The Mayor of London comes to stop them again. Sound familiar? This time Henry VI is old enough to talk, and he also pleads with them to make peace. It kinda-sorta works for now.
- Winchester has been made a cardinal, and it looks like he bribed the Pope to get the job. He's still muttering dire threats against Gloucester, though.
- Winchester has a role in negotiating with the French.
