Dr. Terufumi Sasaki Timeline and Summary

Working in the Red Cross Hospital on the day of the attack, Dr. Sasaki ended up being the only uninjured doctor in the hospital.
After working for several days without a break helping the patients streaming into the hospital, he traveled out to his mother's place to let her know he was alive. There, he collapsed and slept for seventeen hours.
He then returned to work at the Red Cross, where he remained for several years.
Later, he decided to open a private clinic in the suburbs. When he was going to get refresher training, he underwent some medical tests using the Red Cross Hospital's state-of-the-art equipment. They discovered he had lung cancer and removed the lung.
Having gotten closer to death with that experience than with the Hiroshima bombing, Dr. Sasaki claims he became more compassionate toward his patients afterwards.
