Reverend Kiyoshi Tanimoto Timeline and Summary

Mr. Tanimoto went to a suburb of Hiroshima to help a friend move some things into a safe place, in light of the threat of bombing in the city proper.
While on that errand, the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on the city. Mr. Tanimoto was far enough away from the blast site that he had time to react/duck for cover.
When it was safe for him to come out, he kicked into action helping people. He spent the next several days doing just that.
In the years after the blast, Mr. Tanimoto worked on rebuilding his church. To raise money for that endeavor, he ended up doing several speaking engagements across the United States.
During this time, he was also actively involved in promoting peacekeeping efforts/activities. Despite resistance from local authorities in Hiroshima, he eventually started a peace center there, which remained active through the time Hersey wrote the "40 years later" update to his story (which composes Chapter 5).
