Truman Doctrine: Conclusion (Sentences 96-109) Summary

Real Talk

  • Truman wraps up his speech with the following:
  • He wouldn't be asking for this kind of money and aid if he didn't believe the situation were so serious. He's in serious Real Talk mode.
  • The money he is asking for isn't even 1% of the total investment the U.S. put towards winning WWII, and nobody had a problem with dishing out that kind of dough.
  • If Congress doesn't follow through with his request, all of that money will be wasted when the countries in question fall to the U.S.S.R.
  • It's up to the U.S. to stop the spread of communism. The world looks to us as a gatekeeper of freedom and democracy. Besides, if they fall, we fall too. ("One for all, and all for one," right?)
  • This is the duty of the U.S. in a new global era.
