• Sam is born. His uncle Nick and his mother, Tia, bind his necromancy powers to keep him away from Douglas.
• Kevin, Sam's biological father, abandons him and Tia.
• Tia marries Haden.
• Haden dies.
• Sam spends his adolescence feeling disconnected and out of place. Like, more than the typical high school student.
• Sam attends one year of college before dropping out.
• Sam starts working at Plumpy's.
• A game of Potato Hockey goes bad when Douglas's headlight gets busted and he comes to Plumpy's seeking revenge. He spots Sam and confuses him with talk about the Council and his powers.
• After leaving work, Michael attacks Sam in the parking lot.
• Douglas kills Brooke and sends Sam her head in the mail, along with a note to meet at the zoo to discuss the situation.
• At the zoo, Douglas informs Sam that he is a necromancer and that he has one week to either join Douglas or see his family and friends slaughtered.
• Sam talks to his mother about his powers and she tells him the story of how she and Nick worked together to bind his powers.
• June Walker contacts Sam and promises to send help
• Douglas sends Michael to kidnap Sam and hold him captive with Bridin.
• Under Douglas's forced tutelage, Sam makes his first necromancer circle. He then beats Sam up because his powers are bound and he can't perform to the best of his ability.
• Ashley the harbinger comes to Sam's aid, as June promised, and she gives him important instructions on how to use blood to enhance his powers.
• Sam continues his necromancy lessons and raises a higher-level entity from the dead, so Douglas decides he's too much of a threat and must be killed.
• Sam kills Douglas.
• After the chaos of the battle at Douglas's place and his death, Sam wakes up in the werewolves' private hospital. He learns that he has inherited both Douglas's position on the Council and his property.
• Sam performs the ritual necessary to release Brooke's head back to her body. Brooke's spirit agrees to be a guide for him along with Ashley.
