How we cite our quotes: (Line)
Quote #1
"My friend," came the voice, "you're a very fine friend.
You've helped all us folks on this dust speck no end." (59-60)
What is it that makes Horton and the Whos friends? It sure isn't that they share an interest in reality TV. Is it loyalty? Camaraderie? Necessity?
Quote #2
"You're safe now. Don't worry. I won't let you down." (72)
Seventy-two lines in, and Horton's already protecting his new friends. Do you think the Whos are protecting him in any way, too?
Quote #3
"My friends!" cried the elephant. "Tell me! Do tell!
Are you safe? Are you sound? Are you whole? Are you well?" (113-114)
Horton is a pretty selfless dude. At this point, we're not sure how much he's getting from this friendship (except a lot of flak from the other animals), but he's still 100% devoted to making sure they're okay.
