Character Role Analysis

Dolly Wilcox

Poor Dolly is always going around telling everyone things she's not supposed to tell them (like in the last chapter, when she spills the fact that Mrs. Wilcox wanted Margaret to have Howards End all along). She's just kind of a utilitarian character in life, as well as in the novel – her only real purpose is to be Charles's wife and have babies, and, for us readers, her only real purpose is to occasionally intervene and let fly some pertinent information. She's not really capable of anything else.
