This is definitely among the steamier novels we here at Shmoop have had the pleasure to read. Those Mirabal sisters are just very descriptive when it comes to their encounters with their men. Don't worry; it's not pornographic or nasty. The sex scenes are actually pretty poetic. But sexuality and becoming a woman are important themes in the novel, and the language reflects that. Oh my.
