• Racked with guilt over shooting Will in the last book, Tris retreats to the Amity compound with her friends.
• There, Tris has her wounds treated. She tries (and fails) to hide the hard drive. Peter finds it, and they fight.
• When Erudite shows up to sniff out the Divergent, Tris and her pals flee on a train bound for the factionless sector.
• Tris travels from there to the nearby Candor headquarters and ends up getting arrested.
• Tris is injected with truth serum, and she confesses that she shot Will… in front of Christina, who was Will's girlfriend. They are BFFs no longer.
• When Eric, the traitorous Dauntless leader, storms the Candor compound and captures Tris, she stabs him.
• Eric lives but is later executed when Tori decides to become Dauntless leader, along with Tobias and Harrison, whoever he is.
• During a simulation, Marlene jumps to her death. This turns out to be a good thing (well, not for Marlene), because Christina forgives Tris for shooting Will, now that she knows how simulations work firsthand. BFF-dom is back on.
• The new Dauntless leaders decide to align themselves with Evelyn, who wants to kill Jeanine and take down Erudite. Tris goes against them and goes with Marcus instead. He wants the top-secret data from Jeanine's computer.
• Tris overcomes her fear of guns and defeats a simulation of herself in order to reach Jeanine… but she's too late. Tori kills Jeanine.
• The data ends up coming out, anyway, though, and an ancestor of Tris, Edith Prior, reveals that the Divergent are the key to saving the outside world. Whoa, whoa, whoa. What?
• The end.
