There aren’t any big bad villains that are relevant to the book as a whole. Each of the different stories, however, might have a bad guy (or gal). In An-mei’s story, Second Wife is nasty and manipulating and ends up causing An-mei’s mother’s suicide. Or in Jing-mei’s stories, Waverly often comes off as pretty antagonistic. Let’s also not forget Huang Taitai.

In the end, however, none of these villains can be considered an antagonist for the book overall.
