Mark meets Scaramouche while practicing tennis in Alexandra. Scaramouche begins to coach him to be a better tennis player.
Surprisingly, Scaramouche encourages Mark to enter the South African Breweries' Open, even though it means going against black solidarity. He says that sports is always at the forefront of change, and that tennis is slowly becoming integrated.
Scaramouche adds that Mark needs to think about himself as much as the struggle against apartheid.
