There isn't a lot of sex in this book, but there is one extremely disturbing sex scene that has caused parents and teachers concern when teaching Kaffir Boy in high school. The scene depicts a group of migrant workers, who live in single-sex hostels and whose families live far away on the reserves, offer food and money to young boys in exchange for sex. Mark witnesses the graphic scene, although he doesn't participate in it. Some versions of Kaffir Boy are censored and don't include this scene.
