Though the Bible is filled with references to Solomon's Temple (and Lamentations is pretty sure the Babylonians destroyed it), there's actually no solid archeological evidence that it ever stood in Jerusalem. The Western Wall at the base of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem today is the remains of the Second Temple. (source)
King Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon might have pummeled Jerusalem, but he was also admired by lots of people. Even Saddam Hussein. (Babylon was located in modern-day Iraq.) The late Iraqi dictator thought he just might be a reincarnation of Nebuchadnezzar. Like his idol, things didn't go well for him either. (source)
One of the Dead Sea scrolls (known as the Copper Scroll) talks about the location of a special treasure. Some scholars think that this scroll might be a map leading the way to the Ark of the Covenant, which has been missing since the Babylonians destroyed the Temple. Paging Dr. Jones! (source )
