- Raindrops keep falling on the car on the way to the synesthesia event, making it hard for Mia to focus. She sees a bunch of colors from the sound of the rain and finds it hard to concentrate when her parents say stuff.
- They finally get there, though, and Mia takes off her coat and introduces herself to everyone.
- Everyone starts talking about what type of synesthesia they have. Some people see personalities for numbers along with colors. For example, 8 is a flirt, whereas 3 is super shy… well, depending on who you ask in the group.
- Mia looks over at her parents and notices their shocked faces; they're totally not sure what to make of all this.
- Adam starts talking and Mia likes how confident he is.
- Once the intros are done, everyone breaks off into smaller groups to chitchat. The actual work doesn't start until tomorrow, so tonight is really informal and a chance for everyone to get to know each other.
- Adam and Mia go outside and talk for a little while before he asks if he can kiss her.
- Mia's mom walks up and finds the lovebirds making out before announcing they need to head out for the night. Mia is mortified.
- They get home and Mia can't find Mango, so she looks outside. It's chilly out there, but luckily she finds him, picks him up, and takes him inside.
- She cuddles up to him to get him warm, and then she heads to bed. Mia wakes up a couple times in the night from Mango's wheezing.
- When she wakes up a few hours later, she nudges Mango but he won't respond. She yells for her parents to come help, and they do.
- Before Mia even knows what's happening, her mom is on the phone to the vet, who can't get in to the office since the streets are flooded.
- Luckily Mia's dad has a helicopter. They make their way outside to it, climb in, and get ready to take off.
- Mia sooths Mango by telling him he'll be better really soon.
- Just then, Mia screams for them to stop—something is wrong. So before they go anywhere, her dad checks Mango again. And he's stopped breathing; poor Mango is dead.
- Mia screams as loud as she possibly can.
