Mia Winchell Timeline and Summary
MoreMia Winchell Timeline and Summary
- In a flashback, Mia tells us what it was like the very first time she told anybody about seeing colors in letters and numbers. Let's just say it ended with her deciding to keep her condition a big secret from everybody.
- Fast-forward five years, and Mia still hasn't told anybody about her condition. One day, she meets a kid named Billy who has the same thing. Hmm… Mia wonders whether there are even more people out there who can see sounds.
- After flunking a couple math tests, Mia finally confides in her parents. She lets them in on the fact that she can see colors in sounds, numbers, and letters, and always has. At first they're not sure what to think, but they take her to the doctor right away.
- Mia talks to a doc, then a psychotherapist, before heading over to the University of Chicago to meet up with Dr. Jerry Weiss. He explains that she has something called synesthesia, where the senses get crossed and double up.
- Excited to learn she's not the only one with the condition, Mia goes online to find out more about synesthesia. She even starts emailing a guy named Adam who is also a synesthete.
- She starts to crush on Adam, but she has bigger concerns—namely math and a huge history project.
- Her history group meets up at Roger's house and starts to research slavery. Roger likes Mia, but she's not so sure she's into him.
- Mia's been so preoccupied with her new synesthesia crowd that she doesn't spend much time with her best friend, Jenna. Things get icy between them.
- Over Thanksgiving break, Mia goes to a synesthesia event where she finally meets Adam in person and makes out with him. Her mom catches her in the middle of it and takes her home. Uh-oh.
- At home, Mia's cat Mango is wheezing and dies. She feels awful and blames herself.
- Luckily, Jenna is there for her and comes to visit, even though they've been a little distant lately. The two of them are as close as ever again and even exchange new friendship bracelets.
- Adam tells Mia he's not sure what the big deal is about her cat dying, which really bugs her; she can't believe she wasted her first kiss on that guy.
- Roger, on the other hand, totally sympathizes with Mia. His dog died not too long ago, and he gets what it's like. Mia suddenly starts to think Roger is a lot cuter than before.
- Mia and her family find out that Mango fathered a litter of kittens before he died. She decides to get the littlest one that looks a lot like Mango.
