Let's see… The book is named after this guy and it's told from his perspective. Clearly, M.C.'s the good guy here.
But that doesn't mean M.C.'s "good" exactly. He's real and he's thirteen, so there's no way he can be Mr. Perfect. He is, however, your classic coming-of-age protagonist: He starts off one way (naïve and unchallenged), encounters obstacles (like Lurhetta Outlaw and his father), and ends up more mature, even heroic (he's the one who comes up with the wall, after all).
