Nitta Sayuri (Sakamoto Chiyo) Timeline & Summary

Chiyo is taken from her family and dropped on the doorstep of the Nitta okiya in Kyoto.
She works as a maid and trains to be a geisha, while being bullied by Hatsumomo the whole time.
When she tries to escape and fails, Chiyo is forbidden from geisha school and doomed to be a maid forever.
She meets the Chairman, who gives her some spare change and a hanky, which she clings to for hope.
And hope arrives in the form of Mameha, a top geisha, who adopts Chiyo and trains her. She gets a new name: Sayuri.
Mameha sets up a bidding war for Sayuri's mizuage—a ritual where men bid on her virginity.
Sayuri must have sex with Dr. Crab in exchange for money.
Now she must find a danna, and Mother chooses a General to help them through the war.
But WWII is harsh, and Sayuri must flee Kyoto when the geisha district is closed.
She returns, and Nobu wants to be her danna.
Sayuri betrays Nobu, and the Chairman becomes her danna, which is what she wanted all along.
Sayuri moves to New York City to live out the rest of her days.
