Nation Steaminess Rating

Exactly how steamy is this story?

PG

We're total 'shippers for Mau and Daphne, but they barely even touch each other. The most romantic thing Mau says to Daphne is "[The Raiders] would feed you to their wives, so that they become beautiful" (12.12). Gee, isn't that sweet? Anyway, the closest they get to romance is watching the sweat trickle down the broad, brown expanse of Mau's muscled back, glistening ... wait—what were we talking about?

Oh, that's right. Steaminess. Well, Mau runs around in a loincloth for most of the novel. On the other hand, Daphne considers "half-naked" to mean less than three petticoats. When Daphne talks about the mutiny aboard the Sweet Judy, there is mention of danger to her virtue, but it's only something she's told to protect herself against: no immediate threat actually occurs.

Finally, on the island of Nation, we see a few adult women give birth, but don't worry: we never see how they got pregnant in the first place.
