Antagonist
Character Role Analysis
The Montero Brothers / Colonel Sotillo
The leaders of the anti-Ribierist movement are definitely the big bad wolves in this tale. General Montero and his brother, Pedrito, are presented as brutal, not terribly bright, and power hungry. Wow: triple threat. Colonel Sotillo—who leads up a separate faction of the anti-Ribierist movement—seems to possess those (winning) qualities as well. Our protagonist Nostromo spends a good portion of the book trying to thwart the Montero brothers and Sotillo.
