Dre directed an 18 minute music video for Snoop Doggy Dogg's single, "Murder Was the Case," off his debut album, Doggystyle. The song and film's story explores the murder of Snoop, who then makes a deal with the devil to return and achieve fame and success.
Dre, like his former N.W.A. partner, Ice Cube, made the successful transition to film, though he has not been as prolific as Cube, preferring to keep music his primary focus. Here, Dre has a minor role as a crooked narcotics officer in Denzel Washington's detective unit.
Dre plays a car wash supervisor looking to make ends meet. Billed as a comedy, this movie was critically panned and not much of a success at the box office. If anything, the Dre-produced soundtrack is worth a listen.
