Aunt Emily Kato Timeline and Summary

The first thing that we know about Emily is that she's an old maid. Oh, that's flattering.
Naomi has to call her so that she can come to Granton for Uncle Sam's funeral.
Before we ever meet Aunt Emily, we are ready have read her diaries. They span from her sister's trip to Japan to the last day that she sees her niece and nephew in Vancouver.
Aunt Emily is lucky not to go to the internment camps, so the information that she gives is mostly third hand.
During this time Aunt Emily graduates from school, doesn't find a job as a teacher, and starts helping her father in his medical practice.
By reading the journals, we totally feel how Aunt Emily develops her controversial personality.
Naomi doesn't see Aunt Emily very much after this time period, so we don't hear very much about her.
The next time that we see her, she's come for the funeral.
When Nakayama-sensei asks her about the letter, she says that Naomi's mother didn't want her to know. That's the last that we see of Aunt Emily.
