Ford Madox Ford, a fellow Modernist, initially commissioned "Odour" for the English Review, where it was published in 1911. Lawrence then revised it for inclusion in The Prussian Officer and Other Stories in 1914. Changes included adding section dividers and changing the ending (apparently he'd tinkered with the end a lot).
