• February 28, 1871: Agatha refuses Billy's marriage proposal.
• Early May 1871: Billy stages a kiss with Agatha so Georgie will see and tell Mr. Olmstead.
• After May 25, 1871: After Agatha runs away instead of running back to him, Billy proposes to Polly Barfod.
• Wednesday, June 7, 1871: Billy attends Agatha's funeral.
• Thursday, June 8, 1871: Georgie talks to Billy about needing a horse. At some point, Billy tells Grandfather Bolte and is hired to go along with her.
• Saturday, June 10, 1871: Billy delivers Long Ears, and Billy and Georgie set off for Dog Hollow.
• Monday, June 12, 1871: Billy and Georgie arrive in Dog Hollow. Georgie catches Billy sending a telegram back to Placid, and he admits he was hired to accompany her.
• Tuesday, June 13, 1871: Billy and Georgie visit the site where Sheriff McCabe found the body.

• Thursday, June 15, 1871: Billy and Georgie get involved in a shootout with Mr. Garrow and Bowler Hat. Badly injured and near death, Billy admits he kissed Agatha so Georgie would tell and Mr. Olmstead would break up with her. Mr. Olmstead rescues them.
• Friday, June 16-Early July 1871: Billy remains in Dog Hollow, recovering from his wounds.
• July 1871: Back in Placid, Billy tries to apologize to Georgie again.
• Late Summer 1871: Billy marries Polly Barfod and they move to Minnesota.
