Pilgrim. Hero. Rock-climber. Outlaw. Captive. Scholar. From beginning to end, Christian is the subject and focus of action in The Pilgrim's Progress. While it's clear throughout that the pilgrim's road is traveled by many (to varying degrees of success), Christian is the Christian we follow and, true to the nature of allegory as a genre, he's also the one who shows us what being a Christian is.
