When your name and character description connect you to a mythical, scythe-bearing creature that works as a servant of Death (10.114), you can feel pretty sure that you're not going to be the hero of the story. Unless you happen to be in a Terry Pratchett novel, of course. Anyway, Mortimer Cropper is the kind ofover-the-top, grave-robbing villain that readers will love to hate, and his presence often lends a light comedic touch to Possession exactly when laughs are needed.
