Character Role Analysis

Dante

Can we have any doubt that Dante is the protagonist? The story is written from his point of view. It’s about his development as a spiritual character. He’s given a mission to bring his experiences back to earth “to benefit those who live badly.” He’s the one that addresses us directly when asking us to look or judge for ourselves.

We’re stuck with Dante through thick and thin, whether we like it or not. In general, he’s a likeable guy—pulling for good over evil, and generally being a do-gooder.
