Brain Snacks: Tasty Tidbits of Knowledge
A few times we wondered where all the disabled people have gone in North Korea. The answer isn’t good. In 2006, three years after Delisle’s visit, the Telegraph published this article about how North Korea locks up people it deems “subhuman” in a place called Ward 49. It’s like the non sci-fi version of District 9.
Here’s some food for “Juche Thought.” The New York Times takes a look at North Korea in 2010, in particular more propaganda songs and posters. Looks like things didn’t change much in the seven years since Delisle’s visit.
Guy Delisle isn’t the only North American to get into North Korea and live to tell the tale. “Basketball diplomat” Dennis Rodman met with lil’ Kim twice in 2013. (source)
