Protagonist
Character Role Analysis
Sig Andersson
The doe-eyed kid who idolizes his dad is for sure our protagonist. But it's not just the fact that he's the good guy that gives him this label; it's also because the story is told from Sig's perspective. He's the primary guy we're invested in, because we get to hear what's going on in his head, and what his memories are.
Did you notice how the book jumps jump and forth between when Sig is being held by Wolff and when he was a kid? That's because the author wants to fill us in on what we've missed, while still making it Sig's story. He's the guy we care the most about, because he's the one who lives through all the drama in the book. And, of course, in the end we realize he's also the person who's been telling us this story all along.
