Character Role Analysis
Salomé
Salomé makes things happen. She gets the young Syrian to release Jokanaan. She attempts to seduce the prophet. When she fails, she doesn't give up—she just waits for her next opportunity. She is determined to kiss his mouth. Whether you think Salomé is a force for good or a force for evil, she's still forceful. Her devotion to her cause, her frightening passion, leads to her death—but you get the sense that she doesn't see it coming, or, if she does, she doesn't care. All she wants is Jokanaan, even if she must have him in death.
