Turpin, Archbishop of Rheims Timeline and Summary

Turpin volunteers to be the messenger to Marsile but is turned down.
So he joins Roland's rearguard.
Then, ever the peacemaker, he breaks up Roland and Oliver's fight over the oliphant.
He absolves the Franks of their sins and urges them onward to martyrdom.
Then he fights valiantly but is eventually wounded.
He says final encouraging words to Roland as he gathers the dead.
But he dies while trying to fetch Roland some water.
