Get out the microscope, because we’re going through this poem line-by-line.
- Our speaker is busting out. From this hour forward, he's going to enjoy freedom—no limits, no boundaries, no restraints.
- He's still going to listen to others, though, so he's not going completely off the deep end. He'll be going wherever he wants, contemplating seriously what have to say.
- He takes in deep breaths ("draughts") of "space" (60), and he claims that everywhere (north, south, east, and west) is his. So he's got that going for him.
- He's actually even bigger and better than he thought he was. Our speaker had no idea that he "held so much goodness" (62).
- At this point, we'd forgive you if you thought our speaker was basically the most braggadocious dude ever, but we can't help but wonder if he's actually legitimately surprised by what he's learning about himself. Check out "Speaker" for more.
- Everything is beautiful to our speaker. Men and women have done so much good for him, and he pledges to do the same for them.
- Our speaker wraps up this section by promising to "recruit" for both himself and for men and women (65). Maybe he's got a marketing plan.
- He's going to "scatter" himself among the men and women (66). He's also going to "toss the new gladness and roughness" among these men and women (67).
- Basically, he's going to get out there and mix it up with these folks.
- If he gets rejected ("denie[d]") by people, no big whoop. That won't bother our speaker. Will anything?
- If he's accepted, he'll be blessed by that, just as the folks who accept him will be blessed. It sounds like a real win-win.
