Nancy's husband, with his frightening scar and razor hidden down his shirt, is a threatening force throughout the story… even though he only shows up on stage once, briefly. This story has us wondering throughout if he's going to murder Nancy. Though he may actually be in another state, far away from Jefferson, his menacing presence seems always near—and Nancy is absolutely convinced he is afoot.
